The music & entertainment industries are tone-deaf. They are only suffering because they chose to do nothing about it.
The word(s) of the year last year, besides Covid, were what?
Pivot?
Shift?
Adapt?
Evolve?
Reset?
TWELVE months later and it appears that almost no one is listening when it comes to business and entertainment business for that matter.
Why are we such a stubborn bunch?
It’s not “business as usual”. Its business is unusual. Amongst hundreds and thousands of “events” that were canceled last year, the blame is clearly on our shoulders for this year. Sure — 2020 and Covid came like a freight train and took everything with it. But, just like a vaccine that was created in that year, surely an industry as big as ‘entertainment’ could produce something that would innoculate it against massive crowd disruptions?
It’s our own fault that the Byron Bay BluesFest was canceled. Yet, we can’t “blame it on Covid” anymore. That goes with 90% of “entertainment” based events. Like most events in entertainment, few actually took up the call to connect with their audience despite the disruptions.
